PSONI’s mission is to look after human dignity, family and social welfare as well as happiness of persons with intellectual disability, support the families of such persons and help them cope with situations encountered after giving birth toand living with a child with intellectual disability, with a view to transform their personal suffering into readiness to help others.

Polskie Stowarzyszenie na rzecz Osób z Niepełnosprawnością Intelektualną is a Non-Governmental Organisation which carries out its mission in a multidimensional way:

  • through self-help provided by the Association’s member families (i.e. families of persons with intellectual disability),
  • through work for the disabled commissioned by the state – in care facilities for children, youth, adults and the elderly and through provision of services including specialist consulting, advisory services and training,
  • through co-operation with the academia: organisation of symposia and conferences, research initiatives, training courses for professionals in the field; publication of books, periodicals and films,
  • through expert activity; advisory services and co-operation with the legislative and the executive branches aimed at the development of favourable legislation, social policy and implementation of human rights,
  • through co-operation with the media aimed at instigating positive changes in social attitudes towards intellectual disability.
